I am writing today to ask you to join me in support of millions of people whose lives are affected by cancer. As a member of the Lance Armstrong Foundation’s Peloton Project, I am raising funds and awareness for the Foundation and their mission of enhancing the quality of life for those living with, through, and beyond cancer.
Founded in 1997 by cancer survivor and champion cyclist, Lance Armstrong, the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) seeks to promote the optimal physical, psychological, and social recovery and care of cancer survivors. The LAF is working to identify and improve cancer survivor services and facilitate the delivery of those services—and a large dose of hope—to the patients, their families, and other loved ones touched by the disease. The money you donate to the Peloton Project will help the LAF continue to aid those affected by cancer through programs, advocacy, research, and survivorship support.
On March 25th, 2004 I went into the hospital for what was to be a routine tonsillectomy to rid me of my yearly bout with strep throat. Turns out, there was nothing routine about it at all. Within a couple of days after the surgery I was back in the hospital due to complications that the tonsillectomy had created, and on April 1st I was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). It is a cancer usually found in individuals between the ages of 30-40 years old. I turned thirty, eight days before the surgery.
Today I would like to send a great big thank you out to the folks down at Ridley's Cycle here in Calgary. I would especially like to single out Ron, Kristyn, and Paul. To Ron and Kristyn, thank you for generosity and tremendous act of kindness. To Paul, thank you for getting all of this started in the first place. Not only that, but thank you for your patience with who has to be your most inexperienced customer to date, in me.
Hi everyone. As you can see, the Darin Gooda web site is now live. I will be posting regular updates regarding my health, my ride, and donation status. Please check out the "Set Me In Motion" letter using the link to the left. This is the letter that explains it all.
